Chemical Peels & Glycolic Peels
IN ATLANTA

A person’s face is the first thing that people notice about one another. Because of this, people with acne scarring, accidental scarring, or scars from past surgeries can leave one feeling less confident about themselves. Thanks to skin resurfacing procedures, patients have options for reducing the appearance of scarring and get back to feeling like themselves again. Skin resurfacing can also help keep a patient looking young and refreshed by lessening the fine lines and wrinkles associated with age.

When it comes to skin resurfacing procedures, there are many different options available. The approach that works for each individual patient depends on the level of care necessary to achieve the desired goal. Each of the techniques used to resurface the skin comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. During a consultation, each individual case is assessed and the correct course of action is determined to get you back to your old self once again.

How Chemical Peels Work

Chemical peels use an acidic solution to remove the top layer of damaged skin, allowing fresh new skin to shine through. The type of solution used in the procedure largely depends on the needs of the patient. There are several options for treating issues, from acne scarring to signs of aging. The strength of each treatment can be adjusted by simply lightening or strengthening the concentration of solution used. Lightly concentrated treatments, such as the hydroxyl peel, are often gentle enough to be referred to as micro peels.

Laser Skin Treatment

The newest treatment available for skin resurfacing is the laser treatment. The same principal of removing top layer damaged skin to allow fresh skin to come through is used, but the technique is very different. In laser resurfacing, laser technology is used to evaporate superficial skin rather than melt it away. Laser resurfacing is an excellent choice for treating fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, and hyperpigmentation (discolored areas of the skin). Like the chemical peel, there are a variety of different lasers used to treat the various types of skin conditions.

The third type of skin resurfacing technique is called dermabrasion. This approach uses scraping or sanding to remove the damaged skin, allowing new skin to show through. This technique is discussed in further detail, under its own heading, on this site.
